Sky on Swings is a riveting musical and theatrical exploration of what it feels like to live with Alzheimer's Disease, as seen through the eyes of two women at different stages in the progression of dementia. Two of the country’s most distinguished artists, mezzo sopranos Marietta Simpson and Phyllis Pancella, make their Opera Saratoga debuts in the roles of Martha and Danny in this new production, directed by Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson and conducted by rising star Emily Senturia.

OnSite Opera Presents: Tapestry of New York and The Perfect Pig
Tapestry of New York is a short concert highlighting the varied and diverse voices of our beloved city by some of NYC’s most exciting emerging artists. They include the world premiere of Joy’s Aria from H. Lawrence Freeman’s jazz opera American Romance (World Premiere); a selection from the transgender story As One; Jessie Montgomery’s mezzo-and-cello tribute to the poet Bimbo Rivas, a Puerto Rican native whose community activism helped transform the Lower East Side; and Leonard Bernstein’s toe-tapping New York, New York.
Opera meets play in the New York premiere of Philip Wharton and Janet Burroway’s The Perfect Pig, a whimsical show featuring both a singer and a large-scale puppet as the title character. This charming family opera and endearing tale of discovering one’s own beauty unfolds in the intimate surroundings of The Glade on Little Island.

An operatic version of the children’s literary classic, Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, based on scenes from operas by W.A. Mozart, G. Donizetti, J. Offenbach, and G.B. Pergolesi. John Davies’ Opera Tales setting will be toured by Opera Saratoga’s Opera To Go education tour.
“Stepping into a new and unknown world, Pinocchio is deceived by Wolf and Cat and persuaded to disobey his father by skipping school in order to meet Dr. Dulcamara, a loathsome puppeteer. Realizing the puppet’s value, Dulcamara holds Pinocchio captive, intending to have him perform with his miraculous mechanical doll, Olympia.”

Cracked Orlando: Dramma per Musica e Fractals

Continuing a collaboration with composer Jonathan Dawe, I will be performing Medoro in Dawe's telling of the classic operatic story of Orlando Furioso. The musical setting is based on the math of fractals and the libretto on the Fibonacci sequence. This multimedia production includes motion capture, projections, ballet and live technology manipulation and is being presented by The Juilliard School's Center for Innovation in the Arts.
